I wanted to add that functional foods are those that provide additional health benefits above regular nutrition, so vitamin fortified foods are not necessarily functional foods (almost everything is fortified these days). Examples would include yogurts with probiotics (increase beneficial gut bacteria) and butter with plant sterols which lower cholesterol. </description>
