What about something simple like tea instead of coffee?
I have been trying to kick the coffee during my night shifts (I spent from 8pm untill 8am at a computer 7 or more shifts out of each month).

I am trying to enjoy a nice green tea which still has caffeine but is supposedly good for digestion...
Hmmm.. I have only just started doing this and I am really anxious about what effect it is going to have on my health, especially my weight and tone as I have spent the last 6 months working hard to slim down and tone up.. I am worried all my hard work will go to waist.. :(

Working grave yard shift goes against your natural body cycles. If you chose to work those hours your essentially decrese your life span. Nautral melatonin is released from your pineal gland as the day darkens providing you with sleepyness. When you go against this cycles, you create a variety of diesease.

Great post. I work the night shift and actually started adopting some of these tips almost automatically but a few have helped me to cope a little bit better.
