Good Food For Dogs?

good food dog cookbook

We are all concerned with our health and do our best to eat right but what about our dogs? Could we be doing more for them?

Good Food Cookbook For Dogs by Donna Twichell Roberts asks that same question. Her answer is simple: make high quality meals using human grade ingredients and serve them on top of dry dog food for optimal nutrition and tooth health. The recipes are all simple and yield a whole month’s worth of food for one dog. Easy to follow, the recipes include pork apple stew with real apples and pork, gumbo with chicken and shrimp, red eyed gravy with grits, holiday foods, matzo and (dog) biscuits and a variety of homemade biscuits.

She also gives excellent visuals of how big a “bite size” portion is for different sized dogs, nutritional information and a breakdown on what makes a complete meal for your dog. Her recipes are not to replace dry dog food or serve as a snack. They are to compliment traditional dry dog food. She also cautions pet owners to check with their vet before starting any new diet for your dog. Other fun features in the book include how to throw a dog party, dog birthday cakes and foods for the holidays, including Christmas, New Year’s Day and Passover.

If you are someone who likes to give their dog “people food” this is a great resource, rather than just giving your dogs your leftover scraps that might be less than healthy for them, they can have food that they enjoy eating and that you can enjoy making for them. Not to mention that the pictures accompaning the recipes are all so beautiful, you might want to try some yourself!
