There is Gerd and then there is gerd. I had gerd so bad that i could barely force down 1 carnation Instant breakfast a day. My symptoms did not bear out the illness. All my pain (and it was intense) was in the back of my neck and shourders. I went to internal medicine specialists, neurologists (3) neuro-surgeons, gastrologists and afer 2 years of suffering I went to Mayo clinic and spent 5 days of testing (I was in the emergency room twice for intense pain) finally i was diagnosed with severe Gerd and put on 3 Prilosec's and a reglin a day and advised to have surgery. I had the surgery about 3 1/2 years ago and have not had a symptom since.

I was just diagnosed with GERD (and looking back over the past year am wondering why now sooner...but I digress). I've knocked out everything (even decaf coffee, sigh) that is recommended and cut way back on meal sizes and don't eat after 6 pm (I go to bed around 9). Prilosec OTC 1x a day didn't help so I'm on something that starts with A trial. Everything seems to have gotten worse since the diagnostic upper GI, with problems in the a.m. even before I eat or drink anything.

Have you found any support groups out in the net? Believe me, tracking down just your blog is wonderful

(and lucky me, I didn't eat meat before all this so beans sound yummy).

Yes Shannon--it's hard, when you love tomatoes as much as I do. That means I only have 2 or 3 tomato sandwiches a year! Of course, I would prefer to eat them every day during tomato season!

Sher, I had no idea that your GERD was so serious! You certainly don't mention it too much in your blog. And you love tomatoes so much, too!
