Fit Fare … for Your Hair?

orange_q.jpgSure. Why not? A recent special issue of Self (called Self Dishes) featured an all-natural shiny-hair screwdriver that will not only remove buildup on your hair, it will also add shine. As Courteney Cox Arquette’s hairstylist, Robert Hallowell, says, “Citrus is a natural degreaser that won’t strip hair.” And hey, if it’s good enough for Courteney, it’s good enough for us.

Shiny-Hair Screwdriver
Peel of 1 navel orange, chopped
1/2 avocado
1 tablespoon vodka
1 teaspoon avocado oil (found at health food stores)

Boil 1 cup water, add orange peel and steep 30 minutes. Puree peel and water in a blender, then add avocado, vodka and oil and blend. Massage into clean, towel-dried hair, working from roots to tips to fully coat strands. Cover with a shower cap 25 minutes; rinse, then lightly shampoo and condition.

I’m a little concerned about the citrus aspect though, generally speaking high acid in citrus can be hard on your hair. […]
