Happy Thanksgiving From Fit Fare
If you are in the United States, today is Thanksgiving Day. From the staff at Fit Fare to you and yours, have a happy, healthy and fit Thanksgiving! And to help you do just that, here are five tips to have a healthier today (though we do believe it’s okay to splurge on holidays like this).
- Take a stretching break! Between the Cowboys and Lions games today and the big ol’ meal, find a few minutes to do a couple of simple stretching exercises or even a few push ups. Keeping active today will help you burn more, even if it’s just a bit more.
- Step away from the dark meat! Dark meat is notoriously more fatty and bad for you than white meat, so avoid the drumsticks and opt for the leaner meat without the skin.
- Don’t skip meals! For most of my life, it was tradition in my family to forgo breakfast and lunch and have an early dinner. Big mistake. Your body needs the early morning meal to start digesting — and burn more. Plus, you will be so hungry that you are bound to overeat. So be sure to have something (albeit light) for each meal.
- Practice moderation! Sure, those mashed potatoes might be calling your name but they definitely aren’t asking you to eat them all. Practicing moderation (and filling up on the healthier veggies and light meat) will be in your favor. Also, go easy on the gravy and opt for small pieces of pie — with a dollop of whipped cream instead of whipped cream with a dollop of pie.
- Breathe! Inhaling your food might be a holiday tradition, but to naturally help you eat less, take small bites, chew thoroughly and breathe before taking another. Not only will you enjoy your food more (think of it as savoring every bite), but you will end up not overeating (at least not as much as you would otherwise).
