A Second Taste of Peeled Snacks Go-Mango-Man-Go
Several months back, I tried the Peeled Snacks Go-Mango-Man-Go variety to review here on Fit Fare and was less than thrilled. The mango pieces had a funny smell that turned me right off. Being the honest reviewer I am, I said so. That was in September.
Then, last week, I received an email from Peeled Snacks asking if I would be willing to give the Go-Mango-Man-Go flavor another try. The person who contacted me thinks I might have received a batch that was intended for sales demonstrations only (not actually eating). I agreed. I was definitely skeptical that anything would be different.
When the box arrived arrived late on Tuesday, I tore right into it. Despite my skepticism, I was really looking forward to giving Peeled Snacks another try. And I really was hoping that it would be different this time around. I love dried mango and if these, which list only mangoes in the ingredients list, could be as good as they sounded, I would be sold.
So, what happened during the second taste test of the Go-Mango-Man-Go? I have a new perspective. The first thing I did, given my experience last time, was sniff the contents of the bag. This time, I didn’t smell anything but mango. Next, I gingerly took a taste. Again, nuttin’ but mango. After that, it’s a blur. My two and a half year old son and I polished off the bag in no time flat. They were everything I had hoped for: soft, dried slices of mango — just the right amount of sweet. Just for fun, I decided to break open the Almond-daze variety too. The lightly salted nuts were perfect after the sweet mangoes. Total yum.
This morning, I sampled the Pine-4-Pineapple variety too. Again, another winner. I am definitely sold. Peeled Snacks are a great alternative to fruit leathers and other preservative-laden snacks. Most are single ingredients (and all are whole foods), so that tickles my healthy fancy. And they are definitely something I feel comfortable giving to my son for a snack.
So, where can you get some? Check out the Peeled Snacks website (above) or some varieties are available on Amazon with free shipping. Some stores are also beginning to carry them — word has it that Staples has begun to carry these.
