Meet the BodyBugg

BodyBugg by Sarah Caron If you’ve been watching The Biggest Loser this season, then you’ve probably seen the unusual device on the Losers arms. The device, called a BodyBugg, tracks calories burned, steps and more throughout the day. Users then login to a website and input what they ate for the day. Then, they sync their armband with the website and it compares how many calories they’ve eaten with how many calories they burned. The goal is to remain higher on the burned side so that you lose pounds.

It looks like a cool gadget on television, but is it really worth the cost of ownership and membership? Fit Fare is going to find out!

Apex, the company responsible for the BodyBugg has graciously sent over a unit for testing. So, over the next month or so, I will be trying out the BodyBugg on a daily basis. Check this space on Wednesdays for updates (and my WiiFit Updates will return on Monday).

So, I’ve been using the BodyBugg for a little more than a week now. I haven’t yet implemented many changes in to my life, but I will beginning this week. The thing I’ve found about the BodyBugg is that it really makes you think about what you are eating, doing, etc. I didn’t realize how few calories I bruned while working at home. Shocking! But having it on my arm can help motive me to move more, even if it means jogging in place while cooking dinner.
A few other things I’ve learned:

  • I eat more than I thought I did. However, I also burn more than I thought I did. So, it does usually even out.
  • The simple act of cleaning the house or doing some yard work burns a lot of calories. Shh! Don’t tell my husband!
  • Working out burns even more.
  • I rarely make the 10,000 step target but I am working on it.

Oh, and in terms of progress? I am down about one pound so far — which was my target loss.

Being a full time blogger I would really hate to see what that BodyBugg would say about my activity at the end of the day LOL! I do walk to pick the kids up from school but the all day sitting probably doesn’t do much for me.
