Tips From the Trainer: Lose Weight Without Thinking

So, I recently participated in a Biggest Loser-type competition at work. Unfortunately, I got sick about halfway through and wasn’t as motivated as I hoped to be. I lost one pound overall (bad, but at the same time good that I didn’t gain).
My trainer offered up these tips to help me kickstart the weightloss without […]

Growing Our Own Food

The price of baby food - the organic, affordable food that Paige eats - jumped 10 cents. Sugar has more than doubled in price for our small town. Gas is teetering on $4 a gallon. I talked about my fears last week . . . and they only seem to intensify as the days pass. […]

Melissa Garner lost 75 pounds on a radical diet plan. On Smart for Life, you eat six “cookies” each day and then a sensible dinner (their words). The cookies come in varieties like chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin and are packed with healthy ingredients like flax seed.
Melissa weighed 200 pounds and was a size 14 […]

Five Tips for a Healthier Kitchen from Campbell’s Kitchen

I had a huge wake up call this week.
I knew that summer was coming, but it never occurred to me that my post-pregnancy body – still 10 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight – would conflict with my ideal summer-weather clothing. Well. It does. Majorly.
I tried on shorts – they fit just right in the waist, […]

Ronzoni Smart Taste

I have a two-year-old who loves pasta. And when I say loves it, I mean devours it. Whether it’s laced with marinara, teased with pesto or coated with just a simple oglio olio, he is all about it. But pasta for a toddler can be elusive. Getting it on the fork is no simple feat. […]

A Taste of Kashi Thin Crust Pizza

I was so excited when the box of Kashi pizzas arrived on my doorstep that I nearly gave myself frostbite getting them out of the dry-ice packed box. It seems that putting only one potholder on, instead of two, was a poor decision. But was the initial excitement worthy of the product?
I certainly think so. […]

What You Need to Know About Heart Attacks

I live in a very small town. If I don’t know someone, chances are that someone else I do know does. So, needless to say, news travels with lightning speed here.
Recently, that was the case with news that wasn’t good. A father of three was playing basketball in the gym at Newtown High School. Basketball […]

A Second Taste of Peeled Snacks Go-Mango-Man-Go

Several months back, I tried the Peeled Snacks Go-Mango-Man-Go variety to review here on Fit Fare and was less than thrilled. The mango pieces had a funny smell that turned me right off. Being the honest reviewer I am, I said so. That was in September.
Then, last week, I received an email from Peeled Snacks […]

Gift Ideas for the Health Savvy in Your Life

Who is health savvy?
Do you need a healthy gift for a health savvy person? Healthy people are into living well in all aspects of their lives. Health savvy people probably exercise frequently and maintain a fit physique (or are working toward a more fit body). They likely are conscious of what food they eat and […]

Sarah Caron

So who I am? I’m a journalist, writer, editor, mother and wife from Connecticut. Born and raised in New York, I was the takeout-queen in college. Ask me about any of the delivery joints around Barnard College circa 2001 and I will tell you what rocked and what didn’t. But in around the time I got married, I learned to love my kitchen and now strive to eat homemade, local food whenever possible. I am also author of the upcoming cookbook Families Eat Together: Fresh, Healthy Cooking No Matter How Much Time You Have, due out in 2008 from Ladder Press. A two time judge of the Food Blog Awards (2006 and 2007), I’m active in the food blogging community and love the connections that I’ve made over food.
