Crofter’s Superfruit Spread - This Ain’t Your Mama’s Jam!

I stopped buying most jams and jellies years ago because of their overwhelming sweetness. Unless you seek out ones that contain less sugar, your sweet tooth is in for an ache. I found some solace in preserves and homemade jam though, which tend to be less sweet.
But, some days I still want something a little […]

Don’t Blow Your Diet on the 4th of July

The 4th of July brings wonderful barbecues with families and friends. It’s a time to laugh, celebrate and enjoy the Independence that our country declared more than 200 years ago.
But with those barbecues comes a plethora of food, some healthy and some very much not. So, how can you navigate the party without blowing your […]

Ice Cream Without The Guilt

Oh, the simple joys of summer. A day spent laying on the beach. A swim in the pool. A walk at dusk. An ice cream cone. Everything seems so much easier and so much more joyful in the summer …
But if you want your waistline to be joyful, then you’d better be mindful of what […]

The New BodyBugg vs. The Old BodyBugg

Big changes have come to the BodyBugg, making it better than ever.
Longtime readers will remember that I tried out and reviewed a BodyBugg late last year and early this year. That model, which was grey and white and used a AAA battery, has been replaced with a new slim, light black model. BodyBugg was nice […]

A Vegan Version of Atkins Lowers Weight and LDL

Years ago, I got interested in the Atkins diet. It sounded so perfect: you eat as much as you want and the pounds just melt away. All that was required of you was that you stop eating carbs. I did. I had virtually no carbs for months and the pounds really did just melt away […]

Review: R.W. Knudsen Sparkling Essence

It was almost 10 years ago when I first sipped cucumber water and fell in love. I was living at the Biosphere 2 facility in Arizona as part of a college research program and my neighbor (we lived in two-unit dwellings quaintly called Arroyos) had made a pitcher - just water, ice, and cucumber slices. […]

Moisturizer for Beauty with Safety

Yesterday, we chatted about facial cleansers here on Fit Fare. Today, we are moving on to moisturizers.
Whether or not you can feel it after you wash (I sometimes can - my face feels tight), your skin needs moisture restored and locked in for healthy results. But how do you choose the right moisturizer?
First, know what […]

Taking Care of Your Skin

When I was younger, I would spend a good deal of time in the skin care aisle of my local store, reading labels and trying to decipher which product was right for me. Ultimately, this would only happen during the summer months and although I would be devout about the regime while my skin was […]

Tool For Finding In-Season Produce

Ever wonder what exactly is in season in your area at a given time? Me too. And in the harder to decipher months, that can get really challenging.
The Natural Resources Defence Council has a fantastic tool for finding what is growing locally in your state at any given time. Very handy. And it’s perfect for […]

Get Biking

With the carefree days of summer quickly descending on us, it’s high time to start doing something active and outdoors. Bike riding is a great, healthy, fit place to start.
I grew up with a bicycle practically surgically attached to my body. I literally biked everywhere I could — to the store, to town, to my […]

Sarah Caron

So who I am? I’m a journalist, writer, editor, mother and wife from Connecticut. Born and raised in New York, I was the takeout-queen in college. Ask me about any of the delivery joints around Barnard College circa 2001 and I will tell you what rocked and what didn’t. But in around the time I got married, I learned to love my kitchen and now strive to eat homemade, local food whenever possible. I am also author of the upcoming cookbook Families Eat Together: Fresh, Healthy Cooking No Matter How Much Time You Have, due out in 2008 from Ladder Press. A two time judge of the Food Blog Awards (2006 and 2007), I’m active in the food blogging community and love the connections that I’ve made over food.
