Sarah Caron (Editor) - Bio
Most people can’t say what they would be doing as an occupation when they were 4 or 5 or even 15. But I am not most people. I don’t remember a time when I didn’t want to be a writer. And although a number of people attempted to talk me out of pursuing writing as a career for a more traditional route, I was unwavering in saying that one way or another I would be a writer.
I am a journalist, whose work has appeared in a variety of publications including the New York Times, Boston.com and the New Haven Register. In November 2005, I combined my writing career with my food obsession, creating a food blog, Cucina Bella. These days, my writing operates between two worlds: hard news reporting and foodisms. It’s a great place to be.
Rachel Baumgartel
Faced with a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes shortly before my twenty-ninth birthday, I scoured for information on the internet directed towards those diagnosed before age forty. When I found little to help me, I started a blog to help me cope and to help others like me. Surprisingly, I found a whole community sharing in the experience of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, which was much needed not only for my own health, but also that of my husband who has lived with type 1 since age 11.
Writing has always been a part of my private life, but blogging about our experiences living with diabetes has opened up a public door for me as a columnist at dLife. Although I have focused on writing about diabetes, I enjoy all aspects of health and food writing.

And while filmmaking is her true passion, May has found her niche as a writer at a news station in Portland, Oregon. In her free time, May can be found playing outside, at the gym, reading a good book or whipping up something fun in the kitchen with her boyfriend Matt. May is happy to be part of the FitFare team!
Patricia DiGiacomo Eddy - Bio
Patricia DiGiacomo Eddy is a writer from Seattle who loves to cook. Her husband, and the love of her life, is diabetic. She is passionate about cooking with the freshest local and organic ingredients. She conveys this passion on her blog, www.cooklocal.com. She also love to crochet, run, lift weights, read, and spend time enjoying Seattle’s beautiful weather (according to Patricia: “No, I’m not joking, we really do have beautiful weather.”).
Terilynn Epperson - Bio
A mother of four, blogger, and raw food chef, Terilynn’s recipes bring simplicity and balance back to gourmet raw eating. Terilynn discovered the raw food lifestyle when, as a Valentine’s day gift to each other, she and her husband agreed to take on a diet that would increase their health and vitality. Raw food preparation became a special time of love and companionship each day. As a result of a friendly rivalry over who could create the most delicious yet simple raw dishes, Terilynn has become a master of raw meal preparation.
“What inspires me about raw food is the simplicity, as well as the fact that it does something to you. When you open up that coconut and drink the water, for example, something in our brain pops and a you feel alive.”
You can visit Terilynn’s blog, The Daily Raw Cafe, to learn more about her and her rock-star chef skills.
Alisa Fleming - Bio
Alisa is the founder and editor of the informational website, Go Dairy Free, and author of the guidebook, “Dairy Free Made Easy.” Her mission to make special diets and healthy eating enjoyable prompts hours of recipe experiments, product trials, and restaurant hopping each week.
Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Alisa traded in her webfeet for sunny (high) desert living several years ago. Though she misses the fresh produce from local farms, visits to the Northwest quickly remind her that she doesn’t miss the rain. Aside from food, her favorite pastimes include women’s soccer, international travel, quality time with her cat Rosie, and very long walks with her husband.

Lucy Nixon - Bio
I’ve always been interested in food, both philosophically (I haven’t eaten meat in over 27 years) and practically (I enjoy cooking for those who love eating) though my interest in the relationship between health and food became personal 11 years ago, when my eldest daughter was diagnosed as a celiac before she was two.
So my family is a challenge to feed: I don’t eat meat; my eldest can’t eat wheat, oats, barley or rye, and doesn’t want to eat meat; and my second daughter won’t eat fruit, vegetables or cheese, but loves meat and chocolate. Luckily my husband will eat almost anything – though he’s currently on a major health kick, and will only eat healthy low-calorie food – and my son is interested in gardening, and wants us to grow our own food. This year we managed to grow carrots, onions, rhubarb, apples and damsons. That’s not going to keep us all fed, happy and healthy for a year.
I blog at Free From about living gluten free, and raising a celiac child. The Free From blog was a finalist in the Health/Medical Issues category of the 2007 Weblog Awards.
Cate O’Malley - Bio
For as long as I can remember, I have loved writing and yearned to be a freelance journalist when I grew up. When I moved out on my own for the first time, I discovered a second passion … cooking. Now, many years later, I still have a love for both and started my site, Sweetnicks, in an effort to combine them. I have a slight, ahem, obsession with cookbooks, food/cooking magazines, and, well, anything related to food. Joining the food blogging community, it’s great to be among others who get the obsession. My site’s name comes from my 5 year-old son, Nicholas, who loves to help me in the kitchen almost as much as he loves Dora, Spiderman and his girlfriend.
Sara Maamouri - Bio
Sara Maamouri grew up in Tunisia where meals reign the family and seasons rule the kitchen. She now lives in San Francisco with a huge hungry man and a sink full of dirty dishes. A documentary filmmaker by trade, she splits her time between producing, video editing and writing a cookbook called The Seasonal Kitchen. In her spare time, she runs, cooks & has a blog dedicated to exploring every recipe in The Silver Spoon, the bible of Italian cooking.
Susan Russo - Bio
Susan grew up in cuisine conscious Providence, Rhode Island and now lives in health conscious Southern California. She does cardio and weight training six days a week and knows how difficult it is for a vegetarian, pasta-loving girl to build nice biceps. She lives with her husband who is finishing his dermatology residency this year. They have no cats, dogs, or birds, but they do have some lovely carrots from their local farmers’ market. You can see more of her writing and photography at Food “Blogga.”
Patti Villers - Bio
Patti considers herself a novice cook, even though she has been married to a very understanding guy for two decades (she was a child bride). She has two teen-agers, a girl and a boy, who each like different things to eat. Fortunately, Patti is very easy-going, and simply points them toward the freezer first, then the microwave oven. They long ago got the hint. Patti used to make a wicked apple pie, with homemade crust. Her very understanding husband has never tasted it, though. But he is patiently awaiting the day that she will make it for the family.
